MAKE Roanoke is a Membership-Based Makerspace, meaning we rely on memberships to pay our bills and don’t keep frequent open hours to the public.
Membership Rates (price is per month):
- $50–Individual Membership
- $90–Couple Membership
- $35–Student Membership (Active School ID must be provided)
- $25–Youth-Access Add-On (per child), for Minor Children of Members. Restrictions are described in the handbook, in Section 1.3
Membership Perks:
- 24/7 access to all the tools you’re certified by MAKE Roanoke to use
- Tools are categorized into 3 levels: Green, Yellow, Red based on their involvement and risk.
- Green Tools are unlocked after General Orientation, which is required for all Members
- Yellow Tools are unlocked after shop-specific orientation (i.e. the Wood Shop’s Yellow Tools are unlocked after completing the Wood Shop’s Orientation)
- Red Tools are unlocked after tool-specific training (i.e. the Table Saw is unlocked after completing the Table Saw Training.)
- Tool Trainings are designed to ensure you can operate the equipment without injuring yourself or the equipment.
- Even if you know how to use a piece of equipment, you must pass our tool certification before using MAKE Roanoke equipment.
- Tools are categorized into 3 levels: Green, Yellow, Red based on their involvement and risk.
- The ability to serve on the Board
- Voting rights on Board positions, By-Laws amendments, and other non-regular business for MAKE Roanoke
- The ability to reserve our classroom once a month
- Discounts on classes
- The right to a reasonable inspection of our corporate records
- Storage of a reasonable amount of project supplies at MAKE Roanoke
- The ability to sponsor a new member
You do not need to be a Member to:
- Attend or teach a class through MAKE Roanoke
- Attend Community Meetings
To become a Member you must:
- Complete the membership application
- Pay the monthly membership fee (via PayPal, link below)
- Abide by the Member Handbook and Code of Conduct
- Complete the General Orientation
- New members must also
- Be sponsored by an existing Member or
- Go through a probationary period of 60 days
- Probationary Members may not:
- Vote
- Serve on the Board
- Sponsor a new Member
